Over Tea

A sudden chill sweeps through Gotham, almost like Mr. Freeze had just attacked only thing was the man was currently locked away in Arkham, and was felt by all. And talked by all via word of mouth and on social media as well.

The clouds and smog that covered their dark city shifted and swirled, a rumble beginning deep inside them as the weather turned from smoggy to rain and thunder with no real warning. The strangest thing was the green glow that could be seen when thunder rumbled inside the gray clouds.

Then like a candle being blown out, the rumbling stopped, the rain ended, and the clouds parted all over Gotham.

For the first time in a while Gotham had a clear sky and it felt... it felt like something heavy had been lifted off the city.

It was this sudden shift and the all felt chill that had set off alerts for Batman and his family. Since early morning since the first change and shift happened he was in front of the Batcomputer trying to narrow down where it started.

After hours of searching with the help of Red Robin, Oracle and strangely enough Red Hood, they managed to narrow down where the odd power had been coming from.

Was still coming from, only very low.

The old and abandoned observatory tower.

"More ecto-tea Lady Gotham?" Danny asked, his hand waving towards the steaming pot nearby.

The woman smiled lightly, her dark painted lips curling up to show her sharp fangs for a moment before saying "No but thank you Young Kingling though I would like more cookies if you don't mind. Now where were we?"

Danny nodded towards her and signaled towards a maid skeleton ghost who walked forward with a tray of cookies. The maid swiftly placed a few more cookies on the spirit embodiment of Gotham plate before bowing and stepping away.

"We were just about to discuss the sentience of the Court of Owls." Danny said as he lightly tapped the large almost mountain of paperwork on the table they were sitting at, floating high above the floor as shooting stars and planets drifted around them. Many ghosts floated around as well, servants that had sworn their loyalty to the Young King, and were preparing things like snacks and drinks for two powerful beings in the room as they discussed business. Nearby doors and windows though were ghostly knights that stood tall and alert, making sure no interlopers interrupted the meeting taking place and ready to defend not only Lady Gotham but their King.

"Ah yes them." Lady Gotham grimaced as she took a drink of her ecto-tea. "That will take some time for us to discuss, they've been running around unchecked for to long and even with my limited abilities to hinder them has been less than ideal."

"You, Lady G, were deeply cursed for many, many years and I just broke most of it." Danny cut in quickly, he was not about to let this wonderful and powerful city spirit blame herself for something out of her hands "Due to said curse you couldn't do much so please don't go blaming yourself. Its mostly broken now, so you can freely start healing yourself and your city self now that jerk demon that cursed you is in Walker's prison for his crimes."

Lady Gotham grew silent for a moment, her dark eyes staring deeply at the young King but then warmly smiled, well as warm as she could seeing how she was Gotham itself. "You reminded me of my Knight, Young King, treating me like this. Not afraid to point out the truth and facts."

Danny gave a light laugh as he took a hold of one of the cookies on his plate and gave a bite "I'll take that as a compliment Lady Gotham. Now about those Court of Owls...."

Star Trek Voyager B Plots Part 2

[Link to Part 1 of this project]

In this second part of my B Plots project, I was interested in looking at which major Voyager characters feature most and least frequently in B Plots. In the vast majority of cases, Voyager’s B Plots focus on interactions between several of the major characters, or interactions between a major character and a minor character. B Plots that feature no major characters are rare.

The following graph shows the total number of Voyager episodes that included at least one B Plot featuring each major character:

Note that this graph counts episodes rather than individual B Plots. There were many cases of a particular character being featured in multiple B Plots within a single episode, but only individual episodes were counted. Once again, double episodes counted as only a single episode. Also, one B Plot could count as featuring up to four separate characters. If a B Plot significantly featured more than four major characters or no major characters at all, I did not count it in this particular graph.

A complete list of B Plots organized by character is below the cut. Once again, constructive thoughts or feedback on any aspect of this project are welcome.

Side note: The above graph only represents B Plots, not the overall proportion of time/focus dedicated to each Voyager character – after all, A Plots take up the vast majority of most Voyager episodes. I previously completed another project on character focus in the main plots of Voyager episodes which you can find here. i haven't read barbara's new 52 batgirl series yet (and i probably won't for a while, if i do at all), but i feel like it would've been so much more, like, narratively satisfying if it were set during her initial tenure as batgirl and then led into her becoming disabled and creating oracle. batgirl (2011) could be the most riveting, well-written batgirl comic ever made, but it will always have the cloud of "this only exists because dc editorial hated that babs was a disabled woman" hanging over it.

like, there was an opportunity for dc to revisit some of the ideas left behind in barbara's bronze age batgirl comics (her realizing that she has to do more than just beat criminals up and send them to jail; her becoming politically active and working on prison reform; her working as the head of the social services department in gotham to help with cultural development in the city), and then have her become disabled in a way that's not so wildly misogynistic like it originally was in TKJ, and having all that end in letting a disabled writer explore how she creates oracle in the aftermath like kim yale did with oracle year one. but instead they opted for... what we have today.

obviously all of this hinges on dc editorial not being incredibly ableist and misogynistic, which they most certainly were at the time (and still are to this day). this is just a "what if the moon were made of cheese" moment i've been thinking about. anyway. everybody read bronze age batgirl comics -> oracle year one -> suicide squad 1987 -> 90s/00s birds of prey... perfect character arc to me <3

In mid-March, Google announced that it was paying the staggering sum of $32 billion for the acquisition of the Israeli cloud-computing security company Wiz. The acquisition, pending regulatory approval, will be the largest ever of an Israeli firm.

“Organizations of all sizes—from start-ups and large enterprises to governments and public sector organizations—can use Wiz to protect everything they build and run in the cloud,” Google said in a statement announcing the acquisition. The statement added that Wiz would join Google Cloud, but that the Tel Aviv-based company’s security services would still be available across other cloud platforms used by major firms, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud.

What was left unsaid in Google’s announcement, however, were the personal backgrounds of its four founders. The co-founders of Wiz—Yinon Costica, Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, and Roy Reznik—are all veterans of Unit 8200, the signals intelligence division of the Israeli military, which is playing a key role in helping to carry out Israel’s wars in Gaza and Lebanon.

Fariah is not an extremely religious person.

She does not say many prayers where they aren't warranted, and her day to day is not dictated by such either. While she does believe the same religion as the Sidhe, given that their gods and goddesses flicker in and out of residence often enough the main temple keeps a record of who is and isn't there at any given time, it does not control her decisions or her actions.

The gods run on different time from mortal kind, what would praying to them get outside wasted time from her, is her reasoning. But she will not stop people from praying either, as it is a comfort to them and she is not one to deny them their comforts. Especially her own people.

That is not to say she will not openly pray during social events, in lead or in tandem with the Oracles of the Clouded Isle who are sent with the priesthood. It is a morale boost as a society to see their representative share in their beliefs and it raises their spirits as a community to hear her share their lifestyle as well. She will participate in religious ceremonies for the same reasons, and do so with vigor. Part of it is herself, most of it is for them.

She does, however, offer small acknowledgements in regards to some gods or goddesses that are a part of her cultural life:

Kaylaraja as the God of the Dead gets her praise through the portraits of her parents, who she offers thought and recognition through, either with fingertips touching and small head bows when simply walking passed, or a firmer stop of the hand-to-heart of respect for the god and for her prior generation in hopes they made it to the Other World safely. For of anyone in her life, it is her parents she misses most.

Effigies and depictions of Katya herself receive recognition as well for her contribution to many things. The Goddess of War, of Universal Knowledge, of Motherhood. Katya is many aspects of who the Ariad lineage is, as well as the progenitor of it. For without Katya marrying her demon lord Manis, the Ariad lineage itself would not exist. The great relief of the entrance hall of the Imperial Palace, her many statues scattered across the Three and Ten. Although Fariah would never go to a temple to pray, it is with relish she gives her praises in fingertips to her forehead in familiar greeting to the imagery of her family's patron.

And she invokes her name when the time comes. Not a prayer in the same sense, more of a guttural sound clicked at the back of her throat to draw the very essence of the goddess from her in times of war and of conquest:

Celebrations and festivals are a very different aspect of the Sidhe religion that Fariah does actively participate in. Not just for the people, although the people are certainly a part of it. But also for herself.

There are many factors as to why she enjoys festivals and holidays and celebrations more than the prayer part of it. Prayers are a form of prostration, something she will never do, and most especially to gods who will never actually see or hear or respond to such things. Whereas festivals and holidays are all about the people themselves.

Sidhe never does anything small. In part because there are approximately 3.2 million of them on the Three and Ten alone, and in part because the Sidhe are genetically violent and will throw themselves into everything whole-assed with nigh-reckless abandon. While as a modern peoples, Sidhe aren't inherently violent, it is how that same energy is funneled into everything they do that makes it overstimulating and memorable.

The installation of the hivemind across all Sidhe is what Fariah seeks during festivities. It is a current that travels around and around crowds that flows through her. And since the hivemind [like most Sidhe magicks] is based on emotion, she can feel them in this manner. Her people are happy, her people are healthy, her people are alive.

Most Sidhe festivals last for a week. Fariah will do actual administrative work for part of those weeks to make sure the Empire can run by itself for a few days before she indulges and throws herself into the swirling maelstrom of the largest concentration of people at these holiday celebrations. She will be there at the very beginning to help sound off the festivities, and she will be in the fray eventually.

All Sidhe holidays are observed by her, not for the reasons of faith, but because intermingling with her people is a good reminder. Here, she is not an Empress. She is not a representative while flowing through endless crowds of her people. She is simply Sidhe, and all good Sidhe know how to throw a party.

As of favorites, however, she would say she holds no favorite. But it is more than obvious how she pours herself into them that The Festival of Color and YgnaVani have reached such status.

The Ring Run is a close third, though less a holiday for the people as it is administrative. But it gets her out of the Imperial Palace for a week or two and she revisits the experience of just how vast an archipelago can be and how different yet similar each island is from each other.

C U L T U R E

The Three and Ten is a melting pot of its own, sitting at the threshold between the south tropics and the northern hemisphere, where the mainland resides. Many people besides Sidhe live there and they bring their own cultures and beliefs with them, and there are pockets in defined districts that are clearly merging and melting in with others to make something new. However, as Sidhe themselves are the predominant demographic still, it is their culture that dictates the one most seen.

Sidhe are not bad people. If anything, they are open and friendly and why shouldn't they be! The Three and Ten sits on a borderline where they experience many people and many different walks of life and their social ideology is less about how you look or how quickly you assimilate and more based on what you can bring to further the imperial social expansion. Whether it is hard work or foreign knowledge that can be used, it is accepted. Such a feeling of acceptance, depending on what part of the world you come from, can be a little overwhelming at first if the vibrancy of the culture themselves doesn't hit first.

Sidhe are a very colorful tropical people, both in silken and gilded aesthetics and in social aspects. They are not fond of doing things small, believing the 'Go Big Or Go Home' adage. Their feats of engineering speak testament to that alone. They focus on how to enhance the experience of life itself, a byproduct seemingly for how they use their own lifeforce in enhancing their cultural magick stylings. They do this by using the arts first and foremost.

Sidhe love to dance. There is an energy in it that connects them not only with how they perceive life, but also how they see their own world and surroundings. The tropical climate gives them a broad spectrum of bright vibrant colors and balmy temperate seas that flow with their own currents to follow. And follow them, they do. Every movement is its own rhythm and cadence in an unheard song. Although they do not look it at first, there is a dance in every motion.

Music also plays a dominant role in this aspect, a mix of pipes and fiddles with long-necked sitars and the beat-keeping drums. Songs that warble, songs that waiver. Songs that are firm in their resolve, and songs that bring to mind endless plains whispering with wind and rain. Songs about the farmers and the fishers and of war.

War is still a rumbling undertone in everything that they are. The hivemind was instated by Katya to end the peoples' need to destroy each other. And while it worked, they turned that violent energy outward instead. They can recognize in the millennial past that the empire in its infancy was not good or kind, steeped in the blood of hundreds and of thousands as they followed the demigod set to pull their tethers without fail. Although they flow like water, they are still a regimental race. The inclusion of the hive makes them walk in step with each other. Makes them finish strangers' sentences. It makes even the most common of citizenry hold themselves like soldiers, a fact that has driven xenophobic others in the world in both hemispheres away from their hands offered now in friendship and alliance.

The hive keeps the hereditary violence all Sidhe share at some point in their early life from being violent further on. Instead, they focus on progress. Driving progression of engineering and technologies, of social construction and trade. It is where the bridges spanning like webs across the Three and Ten come from, where the Waterworks spring from. Where the lighthouses are timed so meticulously, you can time your watch to any, where the marvel of art and architecture arise. Where the ironclad armada with their prevalent prideful steam engines come into play. Sidhe are innovators, constantly given tasks and things to do to keep them busy.

The culture as a whole stands as a testament to what is believed Katya would have wanted when she made them feel their brethren's emotions. Constantly moving forward as one, sharing who they are in stories and songs and material goods. Growing bigger and better day by day.

A wealthy entrepreneur based in a western US state will be making an offer to buy TikTok for around $50 billion on Wednesday, The Post can reveal.

Larry Ellison had been floated as a potential buyer earlier this year for the social media app, which is owned by the Chinese firm ByteDance, and his company Oracle, which is based in Austin, Texas, already serves as a cloud computing partner for TikTok.

Other potential buyers have included Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk as well as billionaire Frank McCourt and “Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary, who have said they have $20 billion in commitments as part of a plan to buy the TikTok brand and rebuild its algorithm from scratch on US soil.

President Trump had pledged to “save TikTok” before taking office and signed an executive order on Day One granting a 75-day reprieve from a law signed by former President Joe Biden that mandated the qualified divestment of the app from its Chinese parent company.
